WhatsApp
WhatsApp
is a very common app used for almost everybody nowadays. This is an app used
for communicating with other people even in other countries by using your
cellphone. By using this app, users use and put into practice the four
linguistic skills because you can read and write text messages and listen and
speak for voice messages. With this app the only thing that is being left behind
is the personal interaction. As a result, this is a very useful app to
reinforce EFL students by means of different activities that teachers can
create. For example:
-
Teachers can ask students
to record themselves pretending a videocall (,) and then send them to their
teacher.
-
Teachers can ask students
to send them an audio in which they share their opinion about a pre-established topic.
-
Teachers can create a
WhatsApp group and use it as a forum in which students discuss about a certain
topic and share their ideas in both ways by sending text messages and audios.
To use this app, teachers have to consider three
aspects:
1. Be
sure that all of your students have a cellphone.
2. This
app uses internet connection.
3. Moderate
the use of the app because students can use it for extracurricular purposes.
This
app can help teachers to create a more elaborate and attractive class for
students, and they will enjoy it because students are always willing to use
their cellphones.
